General Questions

  • We sell sample packs for $20 which include a selection of assorted stationery items to give you an idea of different paper stocks, colour, ink options, print quality and options within The Collection. We will endeavour to include your top three invitation designs you’re interested in but can’t guarantee that they will be available. Sorry, samples cannot be customised with your wedding information, selected paper, printing method or colours but an ink colour guide is included in the pack. The cost of the sample pack is deducted from your total if an order is placed. You can order samples here!

  • We believe each couple and wedding is unique, therefore Lucky Note Design does not offer set packages or price list. Instead, we work with you to choose items, printing methods, and quantities based on your event and needs. For semi-custom invitations please go to our Pricing Guide as a starting point.

  • For semi-custom invitations please have a sticky beak at How to Order to see the process or go straight here to order.

For custom invitations please see the design and ordering process and you can make an order here.

  • Unfortunately, we do not sell digital files for DIY printing.

  • There will be discrepancies between the colours you see on screen (RGB) and the colours you see in print (CMYK) AND there will be discrepancies between different screens and different printers. Also, due to the variable nature of the digital printing process, colours do shift between each print run. Print colours will also appear differently on whatever paper stock you select due to the base colouring of the card.

If you are concerned about your colour choice, we strongly recommend to purchase a sample pack.

  • You sure can! All of our invitation suites are colour customisable. You can check our Lucky Note colour swatches here. The sample packs that we sell include our ink colour guide which will give you a better sense of what different colours look like in person. If you have a specific colour in mind, provide us with a swatch and we’ll try our best to match it.

  • Each semi-custom stationery suite is thoughtfully designed with meticulously selected typography to portray a particular mood and theme, so unfortunately we don’t provide this service.

  • We are happy to customise any design with any text you choose for all kinds of celebrations!

  • Definitely! Although coordinating items such as programs, maps, envelope liners, belly bands, stickers seating charts etc. may not be pictured with each suite, we’re happy to create them for you to match the invitations featured in the collection. Please note this will incur extra design cost.

  • Traditionally, the people you intend to invite are included on the envelope, not the invitation. We personally think wedding invitations look better without the guests’ names and haven’t been designed to accommodate them. Having said that, it is possible to personalise your invitations provided that they are printed digitally. This service will incur extra cost. Alternatively, you could put your guests’ names on a belly band or tag (to use with baker’s twine or ribbon) that wraps around all your invitation pieces.

  • This is something couples usually do together or you might want to rope in your bridal party or family to create a production line! We can assemble your invitation suites at an extra cost depending on the detail of the suite. We do however, recommend your wedding paper goods are shipped unassembled as they pack better.

  • We use Australia Post to ship your invitations. All packages are insured, a tracking number is provided and require a signature on delivery. Your postage and handling cost will depend on the size and weight of your package and your delivery address. Shipping costs are quoted in your estimate and updated on your final invoice. International customers: Please email us for a quote regarding your stationery.

  • Item descriptionDue to the custom nature of our services, we do not give refunds nor do we accept cancellations or exchanges. We will however refund the 50% retainer (a small admin fee will be deducted from the refund) when you cancel the order if we have not commenced work on your invitations. We recommend purchasing our sample pack to get an idea of what your final product will look like and view the ink colours and paper stocks in person.

Upon receiving your goods, please inspect them carefully and let us know if there’s a mistake within 7 days from receiving it. If there is a printing error made on our part, we will either reprint the paper goods or provide a credit for the misprint. If there is an error with the wording that was approved by the client, the costs of reprinting must be covered by the client.

Timeline

How long your project will take depends on your project! In general, all semi-custom orders from the Collection take approximately 4 to 8 weeks. Custom stationery takes between 3-6 months. Timelines depend on the scope of the project, printing methods, how many rounds of changes are required, and the client’s supply of final wording, artwork feedback and fulfilment of payments. Although we don’t recommend it, rush jobs can sometimes be accommodated if our schedule allows for it. Please note rush jobs incur a fee.

Please factor in the time it takes to address envelopes, assemble your suite and the post to send your invitations to your guests.

Also, please book your stationery project as early as possible. As a small boutique studio I am only able to take on a few clients at a time!

Please view our timeline below to get a better idea of when to order and mail your stationery items prior to your wedding date.

  • • Order Save the Dates (please add 2-4 months if ordering custom stationery)

    • Mail Save the Dates

Save the dates are great as they give your guest the heads up of your wedding date and location. They are helpful if your wedding is on a weekday, for out-of-town guests and for destination weddings so people can plan ahead and book flights etc. If your wedding is in peak season you may want to make sure guests lock in your date before another couples’ wedding. They should be posted 6-8 months before the big day.

Before placing your Save the Date order, remember to confirm all wedding details included on your design (e.g. wedding date, venue, location, wedding website).

  • • Order Wedding Invitations (please add 2-4 months if ordering custom stationery)

    • Mail Wedding Invitations if you’re having a destination wedding or inviting a lot of out-of- town guests (4 months or 6 months if you haven’t mailed Save the Dates)

We recommend starting your invitations at least 6 months in advance, to allow yourself plenty of time to explore and decide on your whole ensemble. You also should factor in time for assembling and addressing.

  • • Mail Wedding Invitations (6–8 weeks before your wedding - longer if you didn’t mail Save the Dates)

    • Order Reception items (please start your custom stationery order 4 months in advance)

Hot tip! Take your assembled invitation to the post office to work out the postage before you purchase stamps.

  • • Order Thank You Cards

    • Mail Thank You Cards

There’s a rule of thumb that couples have a year to post their thank you cards, but we think the earlier the better is much better etiquette. You may also want to consider sending a special note of thanks to those that offered their time, expertise, or gave exceptional service, e.g. your parents, maid of honour, officiate, vendors. We recommend setting aside at least a few days to write them all.

Etiquette

  • RSVP dates are typically 4-6 weeks before the wedding date. This gives you time to communicate final numbers and meal choices to your caterer, if necessary, and enough time follow up with guests who may have forgotten to send in their replies. It also gives you time to finalise your wording for your day-of stationery before you get it printed.

  • Online RSVPs are great if you want to save some money, but they are suited for more casual weddings rather than formal weddings. We recommend including your online RSVP information on a mini card. If your budget is tight, another option for RSVPs is to use a postcard format as they don’t require envelopes. It’s definitely more fun receiving your RSVPs in the mail then online!

  • Save the dates are a perfect way to share your wedding website. Another option is including it on a detail card or mini card.

  • Registry information should be shared on your wedding website. Alternatively, you can include it on a details or mini card, but definitely not on the actual invitation itself.

  • Your wedding invitation design set the tone for your wedding, and give your guests an idea of how formal your event will be. However, if you want to include this detail it’s recommended to inform your guests on your wedding website, details card or mini card.

  • To avoid uninvited guests it’s a good idea to list each guest by name when addressing your invitations on the envelopes. This should make it clear who is invited. You can also say “We have reserved (x number) seats in your honour” on the RSVP card. If guests reply for more than were invited, a polite phone call or email explaining that you are having an intimate wedding is perfectly acceptable.

  • You should probably invite spouses and partners of those in serious relationships, but whether you include “and guest” on the envelopes for single friends and family is entirely up to you.

What Invitation Items Do I Need?

Everyone needs:

  • The wedding invitation is the main component of the invitation and its function is to share details about the ceremony and reception. The style of invitation design sets the tone for your wedding and gets your guests excited. So this is a no brainer, you definitely need this!

  • Reply cards will help you know how many guests to expect. You can also ask guests to indicate what they'd like for dinner, what song they'd like to hear, and indicate dietary restrictions. This card can be mailed back to you in a self-addressed and stamped envelope, or sent to you as a postcard. If collecting replies online, you can use a “mini card” to share your email address and phone number.

  • It’s definitely important to express your appreciation and thank your guests, parents, bridal party and even your officiants, suppliers and everyone involved in making your big day happen. You will want to order as many thank you notes as invitations, plus extras for the people you hired, mistakes and unexpected gifts.

Some couples need:

  • Save the dates are typically mailed 6-12 months before the event and can be used to share details like a wedding website, date, and location. They are especially helpful for out-of-town guests and for destination weddings. Sometimes couples take the opportunity to be less formal with their Save the Dates.

  • Detail cards can include information like reception details, accommodations, maps, directions and wedding website URL. They can also serve as ways to inform your guests about welcome parties, brunch, or other events.

  • Mini cards are business card sized, just right for details like wedding websites, wedding registry details or online RSVPs.

  • Wedding programs are really useful although not required. They welcome your guests and help them feel included and it’s a good opportunity to share nice a sentimental note to them. It can include the ceremony details, readings and poems. Your guests can easily follow the ceremony especially if it’s particularly long or a religious/traditional ceremony. Your program can introduce your officiants, bridal party, parents and include a ‘in memory’ section. You can share important details and directions to the reception as well as activities or places to visit if there’s a long time in between the ceremony and reception. Wedding programs are a great piece of wedding stationery and they make a nice keepsake of your special day!

  • Menus are a great detail to add to the tablescape and help tie your overall vision together with table numbers and place cards. They usually include the couple’s names and the wedding date. Not only do menus inform your guests of what they can expect to eat they can be good way to break the ice with your guests by sharing some trivia about yourselves or an opportunity to entertain your younger guests with a crossword or colouring in activity on the back. If you’re having a buffet style meal or share plates then maybe a couple of menus per table is sufficient. You may consider having your menu as a sign instead.

  • Place cards indicate where a guest is to be seated and are placed at their specific seat (usually above where the plate should be or on the plate), whereas escort cards do not specify a seat but only where the table where a guest is assigned be seated. Both stationery items can be flat (to be put in stand) or tented (they can stand on their own). Escort cards can be pinned to a board, organised on a table or tied to a tree - you can get really creative here! Another option is to have a seating chart including your guests’ names and corresponding table numbers. Escort cards and seating chart signs are quite helpful for larger weddings as you don’t want all your guests wandering around the tables trying to find their seats!

  • Item descriptionYou’ll need table numbers if you have assigned seating at your reception. Table numbers can be printed as a flat card to go in a stand or frame, or tented to stand alone. They don't necessarily have to be a number either - they could be your favourite holiday destinations or the names of your favourite movies!

  • All of Lucky Note’s semi-custom invitation suites include favour tags to add your wedding favours or bonbonieres whether they be a jar of jam or small potted succulent.

You may have some other ideas for paper goodies up your sleeve such as coasters, bottle labels, stickers and cocktail napkins. We love couples with creative flair and are keen to add that extra special detail and pizazz to their wedding so we’d be happy to help!
